WHAT’S IN IT FOR THE CONTRIBUTOR?

Submitting an article will carry the following benefits:

  • Provide an opportunity to be selected for a feature/mention of you/your organization on the UNESCO Global Education Report on the Futures of Education initiative.
  • Provide an opportunity to inform and shape future Education Policy.
  • Provide a channel for your ideas/thoughts/opinions.
  • Inform thousands of readers on this platform.
  • Highlight any experiments/ideas you have implemented.
  • Name you/your organization as a contributor to the Futures Of Education initiative on this platform.

WHAT ARE WE ADDRESSING WITH THE ‘FUTURES OF EDUCATION’ INITIATIVE?

Here are the 3 main questions this initiative seeks to find answers for:

  1. When you think about 2050 …
    • What are you most hopeful about?
    • What are you most concerned about?
  2. What should be the collective purposes of education in 2050?
  3. With the visions of 2050 and the collective purposes of education that you just described …

How should what we learn, how we learn and where we learn change in the future?
You might choose to address the above larger questions through other narrow focus areas.

Here are some examples( Note: Please treat these questions as guidelines only.  Feel free to pitch us with your own ideas that might contribute to the above questions)

IF YOU’RE A TEACHER:

  • Given that Inclusive education is the way forward in education, how would you differentiate learning for the diverse ability needs in your classroom?
  • If you work with preschool children, what policy practices would help kindergarteners get ready for elementary school?
  • Sugata Mitra suggested that children can learn whatever they need to, given an internet connection. Do you think a computer can replace the teacher?
  • What are your ideas on the current education system’s relevance to the real world?
  • If you could, what is the one change you would bring to the current education system?
  • Tell us about any experiments/ideas you implemented in your own classroom that could be implemented by others on a larger scale?

IF YOU’RE A STUDENT:

  • Do you think the curriculum that you’re currently studying reflects career or job aspirations?
  • What changes do you think need to be made to the curriculum to make it appropriate for the digital age? For instance- do you prefer submitting hand-written answers vs typed and emailed.
  • Do you think online learning is better than classroom learning?
  • What do you wish you could have as a consumer of the education system?
  • If you could, what is the one change you would bring to the current education system?

IF YOU’RE A PARENT:

  • Do you think the current costs of schooling are justified? Why or why not?
  • Do you think school and higher education prepared you sufficiently for a job? Why or why not?
  • What do you think has changed for the better in the current education system(from the previous generation)? What could change still?
  • If you could, what is the one change you would bring to the current education system?

SUBMISSION FORMATS:

  • Write-ups, essays, op-ed pieces( 800-1200 words)
  • Audio recording – 2-3 minutes
  • Video Recording: 2-3 minutes

SUBMISSION DEADLINE:

To be considered for inclusion in the final report to be submitted to UNESCO, please make sure your entries reach us by May 31st, 2020.
