Teenage is always a difficult time, but the current generation of teens in India is facing an unprecedented struggle with a forced double persona – online and offline. While parents of every generation do have new challenges, we have largely been able to fall back on age-old wisdom to help the children to come into their own and bloom into adulthood. This time though, it is different. Most parents have no clue about the world their teens live in, and the dangers that accost them. Addictions are not restricted to alcohol and cigarettes, the range has expanded to include online gaming, social media stalking, drugs, and much more.
Join us for a Kidskintha Chaiversation with Jyotsna Mohan Bhargava, a senior NDTV news editor and anchor, who has uncovered the real deal behind the smokescreen of today’s teens’ lives in her latest book, ‘Stoned Shamed Depressed- An Explosive Account Of The Secret Lives Of India’s Teens.’
This is such a really informative post. So interesting I’m surely gonna check this out more.
Would definitely love to hear more. I have 2 little girls, but before I turn around they will be teenagers. It’s a bit frightening.
My generation was quite different from today’s generation. A lot of teens nowadays are struggling to tell the difference between the real-life and online life
The teens really are difficult so I hear and come with their own unique set of challenges. This is going to be so useful for many parents of teens.
WOW!!! Teen years are tough years… but I know each county has its own set of challenges. I am interested in what the kids in India are going through vs our kids here in the US.
The teen years are very difficult. No wonder they are the source for many movies – comedies or tragedies alike. No wonder since those years are…comedies and tragedies 😉
Ah yes…the teen years are some tough times. My son is 11 and he is already feeling some of the pressures of being a tween. I am not looking forward to the teen years. I hope parents and other adults in a teen’s life will be a positive support and influence.
This looks so interesting. There are challenges for teens everywhere. I don’t think any country is immune.
It’s really a hard time for all. Depression is so prevalent in teens now.
I have a teen and I feel all of this. I think it’s so important to bring up topics that are really happening in the real world.
This is such an interesting topic. I will definitely check this for more information.
