You offer to carry your own bags because I am carrying too many

You remember your homework without my having to look into your diaries
I know you are growing up when…
You refuse to kiss me in public
I know you are growing up when…
You want to cross the busy street on your own
I know you are growing up when…
You no longer need me to make you new friends
I know you are growing up when…
When the dress I pick is not good enough for you
I know you are growing up when…
Your questions about the world around us never cease

You understand when I tell you that I don’t know the answers for everything

I see you making peace with your differences

what is left to see is whether I am grown up enough to handle your growing up!
