India’s food tradition has always believed that food is medicine. In this recipe, Ms.Jayalakshmi Sakthivelan shows us how to use the Cuban Oregano or the Ajwain leaf( Also called Karpooravalli or Omavalli in Tamil). Health benefits include remedies for cough, cold, stomach problems, indigestion, reduced appetite, and diarrhea.
How to use cuban oregano recipe in Indian pancakes:Â
- Raw rice-1 cup
- Toor dhal-1/4 cup’
- Urad dhal-1/4 cup
- Bengal gram dhal-1/4 cup
- Red chillies 6
- Salt to taste Omavalli thazhai-1 cup
How it all comes together:Â
Step 1: Wash all dals and rice.
Step 2: Add hot water to clean dal and rice, mix and soak for 15 minutes.
Step 3: Chop Omavalli leaves- Cuban oregano leaves into fine pieces.
Step 4: Grind with red chilli & salt to a coarse batter- Adai consistency.
Step 5: Heat Tawa, Drop a spoon of batter, spread into a small pancake, and pour oil around.
Then drop the already chopped Omavalli leaves on top of the pancake.
Cook well on both sides. Serve with butter and jaggery.
